In the Art Studio at Community Montessori, students will be exploring different media. They will learn various art techniques and develop their artistic skills as they embark on their journey to becoming confident artists.

We learn about the elements of art (line, color, value, shape, form, texture, space) through creative art projects based on master artists, contemporary artists, world cultures, and classroom studies. Students will be introduced to Art History, critique, and engaging with art. Where possible, lessons and projects will focus on arts integration – solidifying concepts taught in general content areas through the making of art.

All students at Community Montessori will have their own permanent digital art gallery (with parent permission) at www.Artsonia.com. Family and friends can view their student’s artwork, add comments, and purchase mementos (Artsonia.com is also a fundraiser for the Art Studio).

Kindergarten art classes are 40 minutes long. Lower and Upper elementary art classes are 45 minutes.

CME holds a Community Arts Night twice a year, where students perform choral pieces and the community can engage in collaborative art projects. Selected student artwork is also displayed at the annual BVSD Art Show at the Boulder Public Library in the spring.

“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.” - Maria Montessori
